Our educational programs include our parent-infant program for families with children up to two years and our toddler class for children two to three years and our preschool classroom for children three to six years. Our goal is for our children to learn to listen and talk, and to talk well enough for talking to be their means of communicating. We anticipate that most of our chidlren will mainstream into schools with their hearing age mates by kindergarten. We provide support to our children when they enter mainstream programs through in-service for the school staff and through individual tutoring and speech therapy for children in spoken language, if needed. Our staff is experienced in working with children with cochlear implants as well children with hearing aids. We have a nine month school year, from September through May which coincides with the Columbia Public School calendar.
Parents and professionals share in the responsibility of teaching and learning, and listening and talking. The combination of education and support for families creates a collaborative environment where parents are crucial members of the team.
